Technical Advisory Committee Meeting
Technical Advisory Committee Meeting was
held on 10th April, 2002 at Bhagalpur under the Chairmanship of
the Vice-Chancellor, T.M. Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur. Prof.
S. R. Mishra from Vishwa-Bharati and Dr. A. K. Ray from the
Ministry of Agriculture participated.

Pre-Discussion Workshop held at Patna
A Pre-Discussion Workshop was held at
Patna (Gandhi Sanghrahalaya) on 22nd May, 2002 for framing the
study design of the co-ordinated study entitled - "Role of Water
Markets in Groundwater Management in India" under the
Chairmanship of Dr. Chitranjan, Economic Advisor, Ministry of
Water Resources, Govt. of India. Dr. I. D. Sharma, Dr. Jagdish
Prasad and Dr. R. K. Batta (WALMI) were the local resource
persons. The study is to be undertaken by AERC Vishwa-Bharati
for West Bengal, AERC Waltair for Andhra Pradesh, AERC Vallabh
Vidya Nagar for Rajasthan and AERC Bhagalpur for Bihar and
Jharkhand.
AERC Bhagalpur is the National Co-ordinator.

Workshop at Horticultural Agro-Forestry Research Programme
(HARP) Ranchi
A one day workshop was held at HARP,
Ranchi for finalization of the study design of "Role of Water
Market in Groundwater Management In India" under the
Chairmanship of Shri M. K. Mondal, I.A.S., Agricultural
Production Commissioner, Govt. of Jharkhand (Member T.A.C.). The
representatives of the participating centres like: AERC Waltair,
AERC Vishwa-Bharati and all memebers of AERC Bhagalpur,
participated in the deliberations. Prof. S. R. Mishra,
Vishwa-Bharati, Prof. I. D. Sharma, ANSISS, Patna, Dr.
Chitranjan, Economic Advisor, Ministry of Water Resources, Govt.
of India and Dr. S. Kumar from HARP were external resource
persons.

AERC
Bhagalpur to formulate State Agricultural Policy Document
AERC Bhagalpur has been assigned the task
of formulating the State Agricultural Policy Document having
implications of WTO for Bihar and Jharkhand States. On 22nd
July, 2002, a workshop was held at ANAND in the Campus of Sardar
Patel University under the Chairmanship of Dr. Katar Singh,
Director IRMA, in which the representatives of all AER Centers
participated. Prof. Samar K. Datta of CMA, IIM Ahmedabad and Dr.
R. S. Deshpande of ADRT, Bangalore were the Joint Co-ordinators.
Dr. U.M. Jha, Director, AERC for Bihar and Jharkhand
participated in the deliberations of the workshop.

Agro-Economic Research Centre for Bihar &
Jharkhand has succesfully launched its website -
www.aercbhagalpur.org
- a maiden venture in the T. M.
Bhagalpur University. The website was inaugurated by Professor
Ram Ashray Yadav, Vice-Chancellor, T. M. Bhagalpur University on
19th August, 2002.

Workshop on Formulation of Agricultural Policy For Bihar and Jharkhand
States:
A Workshop on Formulation of Agricultural
policy for States of Bihar and Jharkhand was held on 31st
January, 2003. Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ram Ashray Yadav
inaugurated the workshop. Prof. U. M. Jha, Hony. Director
introduced the theme and highlighted the objectives of the
workshop. In fact, it was a Brain-Storming session in which the
real stakeholders (affected parties) of WTO comprising farmers,
bankers, policy makers, polity, academicians and bureaucrats
participated. Mr. Ajit Kumar Singh, Chairman, NAFED was the
Chief Guest, Prof. Ajit Kumar Sinha, Pro-Vice-Chancellor was the
Guest of Honour. Dr. Sambhu Dayal Khetan, Chairman, Bhagalpur
District Board and the Farmers' Representative as well, was the
chief speaker. Dr. Chandrika Thakur, Former Vice-Chancellor,
J. L N. Agricultural University, Jabalpur (M.P.) and the noted
agricultural scientist was the distinguished Guest, Prof. S. R.
Mishra (Vishwa Bharati), Dr. I.D. Sharma (ANSISS, Patna) and Dr.
Jagdish Prasad (ANSISS, Patna) were expert members of the
session.
The inaugural session was presided by Prof. T. P. Verma and
Prof. R. D. Sharma, Head, University Deptt. of Economics and
Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences chaired the technical Session.
The session was organised as a part Fulfillment of documentation
of Agricultural policy for the States of Bihar and Jharkhand,
task by the of Agriculture, Govt. of India through the IIM,
Ahmedabad and ADRT, Bangalore as co-ordinators.
